About Sphynx: Sphynx are by far one of the most lovable, affectionate,and comical breeds of the cat world. They are very intelligent and react more like a dog than a cat. (Some of ours even wag their tails !) My husband was not a cat lover at all, but Angel has completely turned him into a catman! She sleeps with him every night and has to be touching him or laying on him. (They love to sleep with you,but prefer to be under the covers.) Since they don't have fur, their metabolism is much harder working to produce the heat they need to stay warm. Therefore, they eat twice as much as their hairy counterparts! One thing you will absolutely need to do for your Sphynx is, Bathe them every 10 days, and clean their ears!!! This is not a joke! It has to be done for them like it or not!(Our kittens will come to you already used to bathing- but still not that happy about it !) They produce a greasy substance on their bodies, which if they had hair, would be the protective coating for their fur. They cannot clean it off, you MUST do it. ( Helpful hint- trim your kittens or cats nails before bath time !) We purchase a 100% organic, natural Dish Soap from the Health Food store and bathe them in the sink or shower (we have a long detachable hose with showerhead and use a hand towel for them to stand on) using a washcloth (dark colored prefered). It works perfectly and is safe for them. On their faces we use Johnsons Baby Shampoo. Always wash their faces first. Dry them well (with a towel) after bathing as they will get chilled if your house is cool. FIND A VET THAT KNOWS ALL ABOUT SPHYNX !!! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH !!! NEVER, NEVER APPLY ANY TYPE OF FLEA MEDICATION OR PREVENTATIVE !!! THEY WILL DIE FROM IT !!! EVEN IF YOU HAVE APPLIED IT TO YOUR DOG OR OTHER CAT, THEY HAVE TO BE KEPT APART UNTIL THE NEXT DAY OR TWO. SPHYNX CATS CANNOT BE LEFT OUTSIDE FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR OR LESS AS THEY WILL GET SUNBURNED !!! YOU CAN, HOWEVER, APPLY SUNBLOCK THAT IS MORE ON THE ALL NATURAL SIDE, BUT ONE HOUR IS LONG ENOUGH (NOT IN FULL SUN, NEED SOME SHADED AREAS.) Please do your research and decide if this is for you before you purchase one of these wonderful exotic cats. There is a definite commitment and they deserve all the work you will do for them. It will be returned to you 1000 times over ! They are totally dependant on you for their well being
