About Sphynx: Sphynx are by far one of the most lovable, affectionate,and comical breeds of the cat world. They are very intelligent and react more like a dog than a cat. (Some of ours even wag their tails !) My husband was not a cat lover at all,
but Angel has completely turned him into a catman!
She sleeps with him every night and has to be touching him or laying on him.
(They love to sleep with you,but prefer to be under the covers.)
Since they don't have fur, their metabolism is much harder working to produce the heat they need to stay warm.
Therefore, they eat and drink twice as much as their hairy counterparts!
ALWAYS MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A WARM PLACE TO CURL UP INTO!
FLEECE WORKS GREAT, THEY LOVE IT, JUST MAKE SURE YOU WASH AND DRY IT FIRST TO KEEP THE FUZZIES OUT OF THEIR EYES AND NOSES!
CARE AND BATHING!
One thing you will need to do for your Sphynx is,
Bathe them every 12 TO 20 days if they need it, and clean their ears, especially when you can see dirt!!!
This is not a joke! It has to be done for them like it or not!
(Most of our kittens will come to you already used to bathing- but still not that happy about it .
Some of our kittens are not the really greasy types so they have not had baths yet!)
Most produce a greasy substance on their bodies, which if they had hair, would be the protective coating for their fur.
They cannot clean it all off, YOU MUST do it.
( Helpful hint- trim your kittens or cats nails before bath time !)
Fill the sink or tub to where the water will reach their shoulder blades- not deeper! If its slippery, place one of those sticky mats to the bottom so they feel sure-footed and don't feel like they're going to drown! Place a ping pong ball (draw a small dot with legs on the ball with a sharpie to look like a bug -they love that) in there too! Always talk baby talk- soothing voice- not sharp and loud. You want the bath to be pleasant. Gently place the kitten into the sink-please make sure the room and water is warm and the doors are closed! Wash their face first with wet washcloth but not soaked and dripping. Try not to have the water running in the sink or tub at any time- that usually scares them and makes bath-time unpleasant. After the bath is over and BEFORE you take them out- give them a little piece of chicken /tuna or beef treat. By doing that you will instill the "reward" after the bath! We buy organic canned chicken to use for training also- after you open the can- put it in a small ziplock bag and put in the fridge. Use it in 3 days.
We purchase a 100% organic TEAR-FREE BABY SHAMPOO from the Health Food store (safe for them). Rinse them well with a large cup of very warm water before drying- drain the water LATER!
Dry them well (with a towel freshly taken out of the dryer is their favorite!!!) after bathing as they will get chilled if your house is cool.
They purr throughout the whole drying time!
TRY TO FIND A VET THAT KNOWS ABOUT SPHYNX IF YOU CAN !!!
It just makes things easier.
SPHYNX CATS CANNOT BE LEFT OUTSIDE FOR MORE THAN 35 MINUTES
OR LESS WITHOUT SHADE AS THEY WILL GET SUNBURNED BADLY !!!
YOU CAN, HOWEVER, APPLY ALL NATURAL (health food store) SUNBLOCK LIGHTLY NOT GOBBY.
45 MINUTES IS LONG ENOUGH WITH SUNBLOCK.
SOME SPHYNX EVEN GET FRECKLES FROM THE SUN AND THEY CAN ALSO GET SKIN CANCER!

THE FEAR OF USING FLEA PREVENTION WAS INSTILLED IN ME FROM THE FIRST TIME I PURCHASED A SPHYNX AND I HAVE RECENTLY SPOKEN WITH SOMEONE THAT WORKS AS A VETERINARY TECHNICIAN, WHO OWNS 2 BEAUTIFUL SPHYNX, THAT HAVE BEEN RECEIVING FLEA PREVENTION FROM DAY ONE. THEY HAVE NOT DIED, NOR HAVE THEY GOTTEN SICK FROM IT!
